Bonikos, George

Mr. George Bonikos holds a bachelor’s degree in Finance from Baruch College (CUNY, NY), and a master’s degree in Transportation Management from SUNY Maritime College, NY. He is CISA Certified, a ISACA Certified Data Privacy Solutions Engineer, and CIA Candidate. Mr. Bonikos has presented regularly at Digital Ship and IT conferences both in Europe and the US. Currently working as an Independent consultant and as director of ICSI Hellas SA, he has served as an internal and external auditor, and has held various IT managerial positions involving planning and implementing technology solutions that meet business requirements with diverse experience ranging from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies. His expertise in the field of IT includes the majority of OS and platforms, maritime software ERPs, email, systems, satellite communications, hardware solutions, cyber security, data analytics, and business intelligence. Mr. Bonikos also has extensive experience with Sarbanes-Oxley IT compliance and audits as well as in-depth knowledge of privacy laws including GDPR (legal, IT systems). He is currently adjunct faculty member teaching in the BSI program in Hellenic American University.

Christopoulos, Spyridon

With more than 16 years of professional experience in the IT field, Spyridon Christopoulos holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from The American College of Greece and a Master of Science in Information Technology from the Hellenic American University. He is the Information Technology Manager of the Hellenic American University and the Senior Systems and Network Administrator of the Hellenic American Union. Mr. Christopoulos is a Cisco Certified Instructor Trainer and a Cisco Networking Academy instructor for a variety of courses (CCNA Routing and Switching, CCNA Security, etc.). He holds several Cisco Certifications (CCNA Routing and Switching, CCNA Security, CCNA Cyber Ops, CCNP), and has been awarded by Cisco with the Instructor Excellence recognition (worldwide). As of 2020, Spyridon is an adjunct faculty member and teaches in the BSIT and MSIT programs.

Doumenis, Demosthenes

Demos Doumenis holds a B.Eng. in Electrical & Electronic Engineering and an M.Sc. in Communications and Signal Processing, both from Imperial College, London. He is the co-founder and Chief Technical Officer of Quantimetrica Ltd, UK, which specializes in embedded voice processing solutions to control devices remotely by voice commands. He has a career of more than 20 years in the electronics and telecommunications industry as a software/hardware engineer and manager and has been involved in several EU-funded R&D projects. Mr. Doumenis is an adjunct faculty member and teaches in the BSIT and BSE programs.

Filippopoulos, Ioannis

Ioannis Filippopoulos is an adjunct Professor in the Information Technology and Engineering Program at Hellenic American University. After receiving his undergraduate degree from the Hellenic Army Academy, he earned an MSc in Information Technologies from the Kapodistrian University of Athens and an MBA from Middlesex University of London. He was awarded a Ph.D. in Computer and Networks Engineering from the University of Thessaly. Before joining Hellenic American University, Dr. Filippopoulos was ICT Manager for the Hellenic Defense High Military Support Services and later Chief Information Officer for a major shipping group. He has served as adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at University of Thessaly and lecturer at the Army’s General Staff’s Institute of Information Technology.

Georgiou, Giannis

Giannis Georgiou is a screenwriter, filmmaker, and consultant focusing on subjects of story structure, theory, and technique. He studied Architecture in the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and Directing Fiction in the National Film and Television School (NFTS) in the UK. He worked as a filmmaker, screenwriter, and story consultant for more than a decade, before turning to games and interactive storytelling. He is passionate about visual narrative and interactivity and his experience includes teaching and coaching writers on above subjects, as well as writing screenplays, articles, personal essays, games, and interactive fiction.

He is currently a Content Creator in the game writing app Arcweave. He is an adjunct instructor at Hellenic American University and teaches in the BSI program.

Gravalos, Ilias

Ilias Gravalos received a Diploma in Computer Engineering and Informatics from the University of Patras in 2008, as well as his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science and Engineering in 2011 and 2016, respectively. He has participated in a multitude of EU-funded research projects focusing on computer and system networks (Passive Optical Networks - PON, Internet of Things – IoT) and has contributed to several publications in refereed international journals and conferences. Dr. Gravalos has held faculty positions at the Technological Educational Institute of Western Greece and at the Vocational Training Institute of Patras as Adjunct Assistant Professor. During his career he worked as a software engineer at the Computer Technology Institute and Press "Diophantus", Patras and as a system architect at NOKIA Hellas, Athens. Dr. Gravalos is an adjunct faculty member at Hellenic American University, where he teaches in the MSI program.

Kalozoumis, Panayiotis

Panagiotis Kalozoumis holds a Ph.D. in Physical Sciences from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), specializing in theoretical physics and applied mathematics. He has worked as a postdoctoral researcher for international and Greek research centers and Universities, including the Center of Optical and Quantum Technologies - Hamburg University (Germany), the Laboratoire d'Acoustique de l'Université du Mans (France), the Physics Department of the NKUA (Greece) and the Department of Material Science at the University of Patras (Greece). He is author/co-author of 22 publications in high-impact factor, peer-reviewed journals, while his work has been presented in more than 15 international conferences and workshops. At the Hellenic American University, Dr. Kalozoumis serves as the Director of Information Technology and Engineering Programs.

Kontaxis, Gerasimos

Gerasimos Kontaxis received his M.Sc. in Information Technology from Hellenic American University and a Bachelor degree in Computer Information Systems from the American College of Greece. He is an Apple and Microsoft Certified Trainer and serves as an assistant coordinator for the IT exams at the Hellenic American Education Center. In the past, he has taught Project Management courses for Aircraft Maintenance at the Olympic Air base, and served as an IT trainer for women inmates at Korydallos prison through a drug rehabilitation program. He is an adjunct faculty member and teaches in the General Education and BSIT programs.

Makrigiannis, Menelaos

Menelaos Makrigiannis holds a Master in Business Administration from Hellenic-American University, and a Master of Science in Data Communication & Software (with distinction) from Birmingham City University , as well as a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PgCERT) and a Bachelor degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from the same University. Since October 2006, he is an adjunct faculty member and teaches in the BSIT and MSIT programs. At the same time he is Systems Integration and International Sales Director at SiEBEN Innovative Solutions, and serves as the product manager of the company’s partners, such as Cisco, HP, and Dell. He has been a Cisco instructor for a variety of courses (CCNA/ CCDA /CCNP Routing & Switching, CCNP Voice, CCNP Wireless & CCNP Security) since October 2003, and has been recognized (globally) as an Advanced Level Instructor. He holds a number of Cisco certifications (CCNP, CCNP Voice, etc) and has been a Member of the IET since February 2004. He has taught at Birmingham City University as a Senior Lecturer and at Open University UK as an Associate Lecturer.

His research interests include Unified Communications, Proximity Marketing, and Presence Analytics.

Makris, Anastasios

Anastasios Makris is an Information Systems & Usability specialist. He holds a BSc in Physics from National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and a MSc in Computer Science from Florida Institute of Technology. He worked for 5 years in the health sector in the U.K. and for 10 years in the Greek industry automation sector (Hercules Cement Corp/Amber SA) as Project Manager before joining the maritime sector in 1993, where he worked as the Information Systems Director for Gourdomichalis Maritime. He has been involved in human computer interface and software usability issues since the mid ‘80s, as a means to improve the quality of software and human productivity. He extensively applied these principles during his career in software development and maintenance as an IT Manager, presented his work and ideas at various maritime conferences and given yearly lectures to students in the Faculty of Communication & Media Studies of the University of Athens on the application of Usability and UX topics to our everyday life. He is a founding founding member and member of the Board of Directors of AMMITEC, a member of the Usability Professionals Association and Hellenic Management Association and founding member and member of the Board of Directors of the ACM Greek Special Interest Group on Computer-Human Interface. Mr. Makris is an adjunct faculty member at Hellenic American University, where he teaches in the BSI program.

Mitsikas, Theodoros

Theodoros Mitsikas holds a Diploma from the Department of Mathematics, School of Applied Mathematical and Physical Sciences National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and is a PhD Candidate at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, NTUA. Since 2018 he has been working as a teaching assistant for the Department of Mathematics, NTUA, teaching Object-Oriented Programming and Graph Theory. He has participated in EU-funded research projects, focusing on formal methods, the semantic web, and knowledge representation, and has contributed to several publications in international journals and conferences. He is currently a researcher in the laboratory of Formal Methods and Logic at NTUA and at RuleML Inc., Canada., where he is also a chair of the PSOA RuleML Technical Group. He is an adjunct faculty member at Hellenic American University and teaches in the BSI and MSI programs.

Pappas, George

George Pappas is a Ph.D. candidate in mathematical physics at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). He specializes in the vast area of conformal field theories, integrable systems and D-branes. He received his bachelor degree in Physics from the NKUA and his master's degree in theoretical physics from the Autonomous University of Madrid. He has published several papers and participated in numerous international conferences. George is an adjunct faculty member and teaches in the Engineering & IT department.

Sofianopoulos, Sokratis

Sokratis Sofianopoulos graduated from the Department of Computer Science of the University of Ioannina in 2002, and holds a MSc in Distributed & Multimedia Information Systems from the Dept. of Computer Science of Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh (2003). He received his PhD degree from the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in 2010, on research he conducted on Language Modeling for Machine Translation Systems and multi-objective optimization using evolutionary algorithms. Since 2005 he has served as research associate and software engineer at The Institute for Language and Speech Processing (ILSP / "Athena" R.C.). His research interests include machine translation, machine learning with emphasis on evolutionary computation approaches, data modeling etc. He has worked in several European R&D programs in the field of NLP and machine translation (METIS-II (FP6-IST-003768), PRESEMT (FP7-ICT-248307), QTLaunchPad (FP7-ICT-296347)). He is an adjunct faculty member and teaches in the IT program.

Zoakos, Dimitrios

Dimitrios Zoakos received his Ph.D. in Theoretical/Mathematical Physics from the University of Patras, Greece. He has worked as a postdoctoral researcher for more than ten years for both international and Greek Universities, including the University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain), the University of Porto (Portugal), the International University of Catalonia (Spain) and the University of Athens (Greece). He has published several papers and conference proceedings in high-impact-factor peer-reviewed journals, is a referee for some of the most prestigious journals in the field of Theoretical High Energy Physics. At Hellenic American University, Dr. Zoakos is an adjunct faculty member in the General Education program.
