About the Program
Students immerse themselves not only in how language and culture function, but also in how translations function in terms of best professional practice. They are coached to master this demanding profession, gaining analytical and technical skills, cultural literacy and linguistic competence, together with an understanding of the professional integrity that will be asked of them as professional translators.
Strengths of the MAT Program
The M.A. in Translation (MAT) program reflects current and emerging professional practices in the field, as well as latest EU directives and practices regarding the translation industry. The MAT has also been selected by the OPTIMALE research group (Optimizing Professional Translator Training in a Multilingual Europe) as a partner program for a research project on mapping emerging translation practices and trends throughout Europe.

Degree & Admission Requirements
Students complete a total of 10 courses plus a Thesis to earn the Master of Arts in Translation [MAT] or a Master of Arts in Translation with a specialization in the Creative Industries. The duration of the program is 12 months (full-time) or 16 months (part-time). An academic year includes two semesters, each semester running for 15 weeks. Successful completion of the MAT program requires a total of 33 credits: Core Curriculum (30 credits / 10 courses), and Thesis (3 credits).

Admission Requirements
In addition to the required documents for admission, candidates who are applying for the Master of Arts in Translation (MAT) must also submit: Evidence of English Language Proficiency or Greek Language Proficiency (for non-Greek citizens).
Research & Professional Development
The MAT program offers students the opportunity to participate in ongoing faculty-student research projects and European Union research initiatives.
The Master of Arts in Translation cooperates with the Terminology Coordination Unit – TermCord, of the European Parliament. Students conduct terminology research under the supervision of Dr. Themis Kaniklidou and contibute to the population of EU's terminology base, IATE.
Professional Development
Students acquire the credentials needed to begin a career in the fields of translation, audiovisual translation and editing. Graduates are employed as freelance or in-house translators in translation agencies, businesses and law firms.Graduates can also pursue a career in audiovisual companies and the media industry as well as in publishing houses, and participate in EU calls for translation personnel (through EPSO).
