Bachelor of Science in Business Administration

The Bachelor of Science in Business Administration program at Hellenic American University provides students with the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to become competent and responsible managers and leaders in today’s global economy. The program prepares graduates for a wide variety of careers in business-related fields and further graduate studies. The curriculum focuses on the foundation of business principles, such as management accounting, entrepreneurial marketing, strategic human resources management, and entrepreneurial management, before heading to one of the six majors, depending on the area of interest.

The BSBA program is offered onsite in both Nashua and Athens.

About the Program

The Bachelor of Science in Business Administration program at Hellenic American University provides students with the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to become competent and responsible managers and leaders in today’s global economy. Majors in the BSBA Program

The B.S. in Business Administration offers the following majors:

  • BSBA in Entrepreneurship
  • BSBA in Finance
  • BSBA in Marketing & Sales Management
  • BSBA in General Business

These areas of study can also be pursued as a minor by completing the required courses. For example, you could earn a BSBA in Finance with a minor in Marketing & Sales Management.

Strengths of the Program

Our program in Business Administration uses a hands-on approach that teaches you the skills you need, whether you’re managing a department or running your own business. You will learn how to develop a social media strategy, create an operations plan for an actual project, put together a recruitment campaign, and handle other real-world management tasks. Program strengths include the following::

  • A flexible schedule for working students, with afternoon and evening classes, and the option to take a number of courses online.
  • A wide selection of electives such as Innovation and New Product Development, Social Entrepreneurship, and Venturing in Emerging Economies, as well as specialized topics in business areas such as mergers and acquisitions, conflict resolution and nation branding.
  • Support for career development from day 1.

Minors & Degree Requirements

Students need to complete 40 courses including a senior-year Capstone Project (121 credits in total) to earn the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree. Full-time students can complete the program in 8 semesters.

Minors in the BSBA Program

BSBA major students may select a minor based on the four major offerings: Entrepreneurship, Marketing and Sales Management, Finance, and Hospitality Management. The four minor courses are the course requirements of any BSBA major.

Non-business students will have the option to pursue a minor in General Business. The goal is to provide a fundamental understanding of general business concepts and skills to prepare students for the business world in their chosen profession.

 

Research & Professional Development

The BSBA program offers students opportunities to participate in ongoing faculty-student research projects in entrepreneurship, marketing, knowledge management and other business topics, and receive support for their own research project. The program also foresees industry field trips and site visits, and provides opportunities to network with practitioners and discuss business concerns with experienced and young entrepreneurs via forums and workshops.

The Career Development helps students identify and apply for internships with Greek and international companies and organizations.

Bachelor of Science in Informatics

The Bachelor of Science in Informatics (BSI) program provides a robust theoretical foundation in core IT fields and extensive practical learning in a range of industry-standard and emerging technologies. At the same time, students develop the project management, critical thinking and communication skills that are part of the portfolio qualifications of today’s well-rounded, versatile IT professional.

The BSI is a well-balanced program that is designed to capture the diversity and breadth of Informatics today.

Strengths of the Informatics Program

As a student in the program, you’ll benefit from an exceptional set of program features:

  • You’ll be taught by a team of impassioned technologists, scientists and expert practitioners.
  • Along with the IT competencies you acquire, you’ll also enhance your soft skills such as written and oral communications, project management and critical reasoning
  • With faculty mentoring, small-sized classes and hand-on learning in labs, you receive personal attention to your needs and the opportunities to develop your talents and strengths.
  • Solid ties to the local IT market and international certifications from vendors such as Cisco and Microsoft, the BSI will equip you with the skills that companies are looking for today.

Students complete a total of 40 courses including a Capstone Project (121 credits) to earn a Bachelor of Science in Informatics degree. Full-time students may complete the program in 8 semesters, while part-time students will need between 5 and 8 years to complete their degree, depending on the number of courses taken each semester.

Areas of Concentration

The BSI combines a robust foundation in the core areas of Informatics with the option to specialize in high-demand fields of Information Technology. The following majors are available:

  • BSI in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence
  • BSI in Networks and Cybersecurity
  • BSI in Application and Game Development
  • BSI in UX (User Experience) Design

In addition, the BSI can be pursued without a major field of specialization.

In addition to the courses taken for the major in Informatics students can select courses to earn a minor in one of several fields, as well as courses that will let them earn professional vendor-specific certifications as an IT professional, software [or applications] developer, network specialist and project manager.

Bachelor of Arts in English Language & Literature

BA in English Language & LiteratureStudents in the Bachelor of Arts in English Language & Literature (BAELL) program acquire knowledge and skills in English-language teaching (TESOL) and pedagogy, as well as linguistics, critical analysis, translation studies, and English, American and world literature. The main strands of the program – TESOL, Linguistics, and Literature – each focus on different learning outcomes, but all can be applied to the wider market of language teaching and education.

About the Program

The Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature program combines research-based teaching and a strong emphasis on engaged, experiential learning. We offer the best of the small department—its focus on the individual student and a passionate commitment to teaching—together with the varied range of courses that is the privilege of larger institutions.

Strengths of the Program

Students in the program benefit from:

  • A choice of three different areas of study in English Language and Literature: linguistics, literature and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).
  • Ability to earn a minor in areas such as Sustainability, Psychology, Theater, Τranslation or a double major in any of the University’s other degree programs.
  • Exposure to faculty actively involved with research and with broad professional experience in their fields of expertise.
  • Faculty mentoring and personal support for your academic and professional development of each student.
  • Opportunity to earn European-recognized certification as a teacher of English as a Foreign Language.
  • A very flexible class schedule, with afternoon, evening and e-learning courses to accommodate students’ work schedules.
  • Career counseling and networking opportunities through the Career Development Office during and after your studies.

Majors, Minors & Degree Requirements

You will need to complete a total of 40 courses including a Practicum (121 credits) to earn a Bachelor of Arts in English Language & Literature degree. Full-time students may complete the program in 8 semesters, while part-time students will need between 5 and 8 years to complete their degree, depending on the number of courses taken each semester. An academic year includes two semesters, each semester running for 15 weeks.

Strands in the English Language and Literature Degree Program

Students may choose to focus their students in one of the following strands:

  • Linguistics (areas of concentration include discourse analysis and sociolinguistics)
  • Literature (areas of concentration include international literature, film studies, cultural theory, and creative writing)
  • TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages; methodologies and pedagogy)
Minors for BAELL Students

In addition to the courses you take for the major in English Language and Literature you can select courses to earn a minor in one of several fields:

  • Psychology
  • Communication
  • Translation
  • Spanish Language and Literature
  • Business

Research & Professional Development

The BAELL program provides opportunities to participate in ongoing faculty-student research projects in areas such as bilingualism, environment and civic engagement, literature and crisis, as well as support for students to pursue their own research interests. Other opportunities for hands-on learning include:

  • Participation in the Annual Student Research Conference.
  • Capstone research project: a supervised final dissertation in the area of Literature, Linguistics, or TESOL.
  • Participation in special workshops and seminars in poetry, creative writing and academic writing, led by invited speakers from the United States and Europe.
  • Opportunity to study in the United States through the University’s Study Abroad programs.
  • Students in the TESOL strand do their practice teaching in live EFL classrooms under the guidance of experienced teacher trainers.
Professional Certifications

For students interested in becoming teachers of English to speakers of other languages (TESOL), the Hellenic American University’s BAELL degree program provides excellent pre-service education. Students have the opportunity to earn a Diploma in TESOL and European-recognized certification as teachers of English as a Foreign Language.

Bachelor of Music

Bachelor of Music

The Bachelor of Music program offers a balanced mix of professional music training and instruction in theory and composition. Developed in accordance with guidelines of the National Association of Schools of Music in the United States, the program was directed by an internationally acclaimed composer and conductor, Theodore Antoniou.

About the Program

The Bachelor of Music program has a two-fold focus on performance – in both classical and jazz music - and theory and composition. Students receive comprehensive training to achieve a level of performance expected of professional musicians.

  • Special emphasis on music theory and analysis, music history, and music technology

Degree Requirements  

Successful completion of the Bachelor of Music program will require the completion of a total of 121 credits. This includes 40 credits in General Education requirements and either the Music Curriculum (42 credits in music core courses, 27–30 credits in a music concentration, and 9–12 credits in music electives), or the Modern Music Curriculum (52 credits in major core courses and 29 credits in a music concentration). Full-time students typically complete the program within eight semesters. Part-time students generally require six to eight years, depending on their course load per semester. Professional Development

The program provides a well-rounded education in which students not only develop professional and artistic skills, but also develop character, intellectual breadth, social skills and self-confidence. When completing the program students will have acquired the credentials needed to build a career in the fields of music composition, performance, and music education.

Student Performances

The Bachelor of Music program offers students opportunities to participate in ongoing faculty-student performances or compositional projects. Students may complete their senior-year giving a recital of their own either as a performer or as a composer.

Bachelor of Science in Psychology

The Bachelor of Science in Psychology (BSPsy) program uses an engaging and integrated combination of theory, experimental application and practice to help students acquire a fundamental knowledge of psychology as a social and natural science. At the same time, they develop research skills, critical thinking and communication skills that are part of the portfolio of qualifications of today’s well-rounded, versatile psychology professional.

About the Program

The Hellenic American University program in Psychology is revised to keep current with emerging developments in the field. Students have the opportunity to work closely with psychology faculty members on field placements and research projects.

Strengths of the Undergraduate Psychology Program

Students in the BSPSY program benefit from:

  • Extensive integration of psychological theory and research methods.
  • Opportunity for hands-on practical experience at various community internship sites, under close supervision.
  • Wide spectrum of electives, including Forensic Psychology, Developmental Psychopathology, Neuropsychology, Psychology of Addictions, and School Psychology and Learning Disabilities.
  • Cognitive behavioral program orientation, with the exploration of other approaches to psychotherapy and counseling.
  • The Senior Capstone project, in which students design, conduct, analyze and write up an original research project.
  • Faculty mentoring and personal support for your academic and professional development.
  • Career counseling and opportunities for networking through our Career Development Office during and after your studies.

Degree Requirements

Students complete a total of 123 credits to earn the Bachelor of Science in Psychology: 40 credit hours (14 courses) in general education, 18 credit hours (6 courses) in free electives (or a minor) and 65 credit hours (21 courses) in psychology, together and the Capstone Project. Full-time students may complete the program in 8 semesters, while part-time students will need between 5 to 8 years to complete their degree, depending on the number of courses taken each semester.

Research & Professional Development

The Bachelor of Psychology program provides a well-rounded education in which students not only acquire professional skills, but also develop character, self-awareness, intellectual breadth, and social skills. They acquire the credentials to continue studies at the graduate level, and the skills and competencies needed for entry level positions in the human services and mental health fields.

Upon completing the program students will have:

  • An understanding of behavior and mental processes that provides insight into their own and others’ behavior.
  • The ability to apply psychological theories and research findings to problems in everyday life.
  • An enhanced ability to interact effectively and sensitively with people from diverse backgrounds and cultural perspectives.
  • Exposure to the applications of psychology through the faculty supervised internship practicum.
  • Strong critical and quantitative reasoning skills.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills in English.
Research and Practical Experience

The Bachelor of Science in Psychology offers students opportunities to participate in ongoing faculty-student research projects in the form of experiments or survey research studies in various fields of interest such as mental health, social conformity, volunteerism, smoking cessation.

Students may also obtain hands-on practical experience at various community internship sites under close supervision.
